The Civil and Structural Engineering practice of Hess Engineering
Inc. was established in 1980 based on fifteen years of building
and facilities design, constructions management and real estate
development experience of its principal with four major corporations.
In 1990, Larson Engineering of California and Dohube Structural
Engineers from southern Orange County were acquired and in 1992
our main office was moved to Los Alamitos at the boundary of Los
Angeles and Orange Counties in southern California. Richard Hess
is a registered Structural or Professional Engineer in fourteen
Pacific, Rocky Mountain and Gulf Coast states.

The personnel of Hess Engineering Inc. have extensive experience
in the structural design and retrofit of residential, commercial,
institutional and industrial buildings, as well as blast-resistant
and geotechnical structures, supports for large dynamic equipment
and vessels, ocean structures and water treatment facilities.

We have specialized in the seismic evaluation and remedial design
of existing hazardous buildings, storage vessels and industrial
structures, as well as supports for both architectural and mechanical
non-structural elements such as equipment enclosures, office and
laboratory fixtures, curtainwalls, complex glazing and ceiling systems,
access floors, piping and ducts.
Our engineers actively chair and participate in SEAOC Existing Building
and ASCE Structural Retrofit Standards Committee work developing
new codes and design guidelines for seismic and wind design. Seismic
evaluation and loss assessment reports are regularly written for
a wide range of structures.
Our professional staff consists of highly motivated, experienced
veterans of engineering analysis and design. We are capable of moving
quickly on large or small projects using the same attention to technical
detail and project management that has produced uniformly economical
results for our clients.
